Rare ca 1850 German Toy Sample Book SOLD $51,600

Rare ca 1850 German toy sample book containing an astonishing 295 hand colored plates illustrating 2354 products, many available in multiple sizes. The Waldkirchen sample book and the Rau Co., Nurnberg sample book are related examples, but this book appears to have all of its original plates, and retains a front page describing the scale of the pictures in 5 different languages. The vibrant bright hand applied color illustrations highlight wonderful painted wood and composition toys, dolls, animals, soldiers, historical figures, squeak toys, pull toys, farm sets, band boxes, musical instruments, mechanical organs, carpet balls, glass bottles, glass eyes, Christmas ornaments, sewing notions, and willow baskets. This outstanding reference is hardbound in cloth over leather and boards. There are small tears on several pages, including 1"-2" tears on pages 52-53, 74-75, and several 4" tears on pages 172-177, two pages are uncolored, book size is 11" x 17"
