This was also identified on the tag with a reverse numeral 1.

Ando Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese 1797-1858) The 19th c late Edo/early Meiji period printing- complete set (55 Ukiyo-e woodblock prints) of Famous Sights of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido (Gojusan tsugi meisho zue), also known as the Vertical Tokaido. Purchased by American architect Charles Rudolph in 1894 while he was in Japan for an academic trip. This unusual complete set has remained in his family since that time. Folio retains hand decorated 19th c boards , a period description of the 53 stations in English from the publisher Matahachi Kodama each plate is titled at the top margin in English identifying the scene. Most prints retain their accordion binding, with approximately 20 that have separated into single or paired sections. The prints are in outstanding rarely viewed condition with only the barest foxing and intense colors that are as issued. The plates for Mishima and Namazu have a minor loss to the backing of each, that may have been in the making but approx 3 inches of one top corner shows staining of the back. 14.75 x 9.5" - Sold to benefit Ukraine Crisis Aid Group
